Wean wean Weaning?

Hallo~ seems like I have not written a proper blog post this few days. Well, today, I would like to share some of my Paediatric knowledge with you all~ Which I studied during this week for my final exam which will be on this Saturday at 9 am.

Weaning. What is weaning? Weaning is the addition of non-milk foods to the infant diet. Weaning is important to supply an adequate vitamins and minerals to maintain the normal growth, health and energy of an infant.

Weaning can be 2 types: Microaddition and Macroadddition.

Microaddition is given on the 3rd month of age of an infant. It is added before Macroaddition.

On the 3rd month, small amounts of vitamin C is given (fruit juices, sugar free). Remember! Only 3-5 drops! And then, observe the reaction of the infant for a week, in case the infant has an allergic reaction toward the foods given. If there’s no reaction? Then continue lor with the vitamin C but slowly increase the amount
On 4th month – 30 ml / day of vitamin C is given
On 5th month – 60 ml/ day of vitamin C is given
On 10th – 12th month – 100 ml/day of vitamin C is given

On 4th month, sweetened pureed (stewed) apples (better if green apples) or banana smashed with breast milk is given. Child is also observed for any allergic reaction for a week. Then continue to slowly increase the amount.
On 5th month – 50 ml/day
On 6th month – 60ml/day
On 9th – 12th month – 100ml/ day

Other kinds of microaddition are butter, vegetable oils, cords and yoghurts.

HMm….I wonder if my mum did follow this diet regime when I was small? Hmmmm….

Next post will be about Macroaddtion! Stay tune! Hahahaha..
