JOHOR BARU: A private hospital nurse, who had a forceps left in her abdomen for 49 days after an operation, is now getting “first class” treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
Kalaiyarasi Perumal, 44, said she can now move.
“All I want now is to get well quickly and go home.”
A 20cm forceps was left in her abdomen during a hysterectomy at the hospital in September.
Kalaiyarasi’s nightmare started a few days before Deepavali when she started experiencing abdominal pains and had difficulty eating.
She vomitted whenever she ate or drank.
Her nephew, who only wanted to be known as Agilan, said she was rushed to a private hospital for a check-up and was shocked when the X-ray revealed the forceps in her lower abdomen.
“We took her back to the government hospital where she had her operation to have the forceps removed.”
He claimed that doctors at the hospital had told him that they would meet Kalaiyarasi and her family to settle the matter.
Three days after her second operation last week, Kalaiyarasi was transferred to the first class ward.
“I hope the forceps have not caused other internal damage to my organs,” said Kalaiyarasi.
Hospital director Dr Rooshimi Merican A. Rahim Merican said the hospital had submitted a report to the Health Ministry.
